Global transportation services are trending towards MaaS (Mobility as a Service). As a leading mobility service provider in Taiwan, Hotai Group is committed to offering consumers comprehensive mobility solutions. In 2023, they launched the most convenient travel planning app, "GoFun," which integrates group services such as iRent, yoxi, Hotai Car Rental, and airport transfers. This provides consumers with a seamless travel planning tool before departure, during the trip, and after the journey, building a more comprehensive MaaS ecosystem.
Planning a trip often becomes tedious after deciding on a destination and accommodation.
In the past, users had to research attractions on Google Maps, Instagram, and various blogs, save the information in note-taking apps, and then arrange their itinerary using online platforms like Excel or Notion, inviting friends and family to collaborate. Throughout the process, they had to switch between multiple tools and expend a lot of effort planning the most efficient routes.
'chicTrip' integrates features such as exploring attractions, scheduling itineraries, collaborating with friends, copying others' itineraries, adding locations directly from Google Maps, and creating personalized travel booklets. This allows users to plan easily and travel joyfully.
To bridge the gap between differing perspectives, Goons conducted multiple stakeholder interviews in the early stages of the project, gathering insights from both the operational and management levels. A joint workshop was then held, bringing together different departments to brainstorm service processes based on usage scenarios. This collaborative effort ultimately led to a unified product vision.
Due to the product's complex interaction experience and system development, Hetai and Goons teams adopted an agile collaboration process to speed up the overall development. A shared Kanban board was used to track task progress, while stand-up meetings ensured alignment on the scope and specifications for each Sprint. Once the information architecture was finalized, design deliverables were completed on a weekly basis.
Frequent discussions and collaboration allowed the initial product to complete its design, development, and testing within just six months, successfully launching to market.
Following the core concept of being 'the most convenient travel planning app,' the design incorporates vibrant colors, playful illustrations, and rounded cards to create a fun and engaging atmosphere. While ensuring readability, it also fully conveys the core values of ease and enjoyment in travel.
A triangle-inspired symbol, evoking the image of a flag, was created to allow users not only to plan their trips but also to share locations with others by "planting flags" at various spots. This symbol helps build user recognition while also aligning with the future development vision of travel integration that chicTrip aims to achieve.
Through the use of illustrations and immersive scenario design, the app creates an atmosphere of excitement for upcoming travels. Friendly navigation prompts and key information highlights ensure that users feel the vibe of their trip even during the planning stage, providing an enjoyable and delightful experience that brings a smile to their face.
In our past experience with outsourced design, product managers often had to consider various factors, which frequently led to deadlock with designers who were focused on visual perfection. Both sides struggled to understand each other, each holding their own perspective. However, working with Goons made a refreshing difference. They made us feel truly heard and ensured our needs were accurately understood, which significantly improved efficiency by integrating those needs into the design process, avoiding the need for repetitive communication.
Collaborating with Hotai to develop the ""chicTrip"" travel planning app was a journey filled with both challenges and creativity. Hotai aspires to be a trendsetter in the travel industry, consistently pushing the boundaries of innovation. Their engineering team, with exceptional technical expertise, allowed us to explore many new processes that we had seldom ventured into before. The product managers demonstrated outstanding decision-making skills, leading the team through continuous transformation while fully trusting Goons’s creativity, granting us ample room to explore and innovate. Despite the limited development time in each phase, both teams remained focused on aligning ideas, communicating effectively, and making adjustments. This led to quick iterations and high-quality results. Throughout this collaboration, witnessing the product’s rapid market response and receiving numerous design insights made this an unforgettable experience for everyone involved in the project.
We care about your concerns and strive to envision more possibilities for the future.
